Tell Congress to pass the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act

WildEarth Guardians is proud to endorse the visionary Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act (NREPA). Now we need your help to make this bill a reality.

NREPA will designate 23 million acres of public wildlands as Wilderness and 1,800 miles of rivers and streams as Wild and Scenic in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington. It will also protect habitat for iconic imperiled species like grizzly bears, wolverines, sage grouse, bull trout, Canada lynx, and wolves and preserve old-growth forests, which will act as a carbon sink to counteract greenhouse gas emissions.

The climate and biodiversity crises require bold, systemic solutions, so please write your members of Congress today and urge them to co-sponsor and pass the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act.

As your constituent, I'm asking you to co-sponsor and pass the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act (NREPA).

NREPA is a science-based bill that will designate 23 million acres of Wilderness for some of America's most beautiful, wild, and ecologically important public lands in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington.

NREPA will protect habitat for iconic species like the grizzly bear, wolverine, sage grouse, bull trout, Canada lynx, and gray wolf. It will preserve old-growth forests that will act as a carbon sink to counteract greenhouse gas emissions and the bill complements President Biden's executive order to put America on the path of protecting 30 percent of its land and ocean areas by 2030.

In addition to designating 23 million acres of Wilderness, NREPA specifically:

1) Designates biological connecting corridors, ensuring the continued existence of native plants and animals and mitigating the effects of climate change;

2) Expands and provides greater protection for many existing Wilderness areas in the Northern Rockies by protecting the surrounding wildlands and wild rivers;

3) Establishes a number of wildland "recovery areas" that will provide sustainable jobs undoing damage caused by past destructive logging and roadbuilding;

4) Designates 1,800-miles of rivers and streams as Wild and Scenic;

5)  Saves taxpayers tens of millions of dollars by eliminating subsidized logging and road-building in wildlands that would serve more essential functions as Wilderness.

This legislation is of utmost importance to preserving and protecting some of the last wild places and wild rivers left in America, which are home to iconic threatened and endangered species. Please co-sponsor, support, and pass the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act.
