Senator Cortez Masto (D-Nevada) wants to sell off or give away almost 100,000 acres of public lands in central Nevada and transfer another 380,000 acres of public lands to the military for expanding a naval air station and bombing range onto what is now important habitat for desert bighorn sheep, greater sage-grouse, and golden eagles.
Cortez Masto knows the public strongly opposes public lands disposals like these so she’s looking to sneak her proposals into the annual defense spending bill, knowing that Congress must eventually pass this legislation.
Help protect public lands by telling your senator, a member of the Armed Services Committee, that these provisions have no place in the 2021 defense spending bill. Your letter will make a bigger impact if you speak in your own words and tell your senator why public lands are important to you.
