Stop new attacks on the Endangered Species Act The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing yet another round of regulations to undercut the Endangered Species Act—our nation’s most effective law for saving imperiled wildlife from extinction. Protect biodiversity and help stop extinction by signing on to our comments opposing these damaging regulations. Message * Subject: Dear Secretary Berhardt, * Personalize your message I strongly oppose the proposed rule change to the way "critical habitat" is designated and protected under the Endangered Species Act. The existing habitat protections have been crucial to the recovery of species that rely upon safe and undisturbed habitat. The Endangered Species Act has saved 99% of the plants and animals under its protection. Protecting habitat for endangered species allows for the recovery of those species and supports ecosystem services. It is good for imperiled wildlife and for communities. Species with designated critical habitat are twice as likely to recover as those without it. This proposed change would give extractive industries outsized powers to exclude areas from critical habitat designation for economic reasons. I demand that this proposed rule (FWSHQES20190115) be immediately withdrawn.
