WildEarth Guardians petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list the Joshua tree as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act in 2015. The Service denied the petition in August 2019, so in November 2019 Guardians took the Service to court.
As that lawsuit makes its way through the court system, you can support Joshua tree conservation by urging the federal government to reconsider the Service's denial of Endangered Species Act protections for the Joshua tree.
